Summer Care For Your Nails

Hey Funtime gals, summer is here! And while most people welcome the warmer weather some of us fear what it can do to our look. Fear not, our Fun Time Bingo helpers have your back when it comes to keeping your nails looking sharp and stylish without having to visit high-priced salons every day! Here's a list of things you want to avoid in order to keep your nails looking gorgeous and healthy whether you're sun-bathing at the beach or drinking a cool glass of lemonade on your porch:

1. Baked Nails: Heat can bake polish right into your nails, leaving behind a sallow tint. To prevent this, try prepping nails with two layers of a base coat and choose light polish colors. Beige and light pinks colors are very popular this summer.

2. Weak Nails: Chlorine and even air-conditioning can make nail surfaces brittle. There are actually several things you can do in order to avoid this:

  • Avoid products such as hand cream that contain alcohol. These will dry nails out.
  • Foods that contain fatty acids strengthen brittle nails and help them stay strong.
  • Use of a calcium gel is great for dry, brittle nails. You'll see the difference right away once you start applying it.
  • Take Vitamins. Vitamin A is particularly good for your hair and nails.
  • Eat healthy.
3. Ragged cuticles: Pool or ocean water can dry out your skin and leave it full of wrinkles. The best way to prevent this is to dab on a moisture-rich balm before getting in. Balms made with beeswax are especially good for your cuticles.

Summer Care For Your Hair

Some of our readers may remember our last article on keeping your nails looking pristine and healthy for the summer, today we focus on an equally important topic: hair! We know most of you Funtimers are excited about having some fun in the sun this season, and why shouldn't you? Summer is the time for being outdoors, swimming and sharing with friends. However, the warm weather can wreak havoc on your hair if you are not carful. Here is an easy list of tips to help you keep your glow!

1. Wash your hair appropriately: The trick is to not wash your hair too much or too little, natural oils are good for your hair as long as it doesn't get too greasy. It is also very important to NEVER shampoo your hair before you go swimming, this strips away the natural oils and leaves your hair vulnerable to drying chemicals and salt. On the other hand, just soaking it in tap water before you get into the ocean or poll will prevent is from soaking up as much salt or chlorine as dry hair When you do shampoo wash only the scalp and then it out. The suds will run down your hair lightly and cleanse it without drying it out.

2. Give your hair the care it deserves: It is very important to comb your hair every day in order to keep it untangled. Wear scarves and hats to protect it from wind and sun. When you sleep let your hair loose, sticking barrettes or clips in will just leave marks. And remember not to yank it if it gets tangled! Just untangle it gently by running a comb through it. If possible sleep on a satin pillow case, the slippery fabric will keeps your hair from breaking. Another good thing is to run a dehumidifier when you sleep this will pull frizz-inducing moisture from the air so your hair stays smooth and silky. Prevent your hair from falling flat by misting an oil-controlling spray onto your roots.

3. Eat right: Believe it or not, eating the right foods is paramount to keeping your mane healthy. This summer try to cut back on the soda and instead drink lots of water, this is good for a number of reasons but you will notice how it keeps your hair shinning. Protein is also vital to keeping your hair strong. Hair is made of keratin, a type of protein, so reinforce it by eating protein rich foods. Some examples of natural foods that are rich in proteins are nuts, kale, spinach, and beans. In fact, if you can eat a cup of veggies and fruits every day you will start seeing the difference right away; not only in your hair but in your whole body.
